R100m of alterations and additions to an existing 11-storey
mixed-use building known as The Bank, situated on portion
2 of Erf 201, Rosebank, Gauteng, have been tendered. The
scope of works includes some minor demolition work,
additions to existing structures consisting of a reinforced
concrete structure, infill brickwork, specialised plaster
renders, aluminium and glass façade elements, and all
associated mechanical, electrical, and wet services. This
will be done in phases. Phase 1 will be retail floors of two
levels, phase 2 will be office floors of three levels, phase 3
will be residential floors of four levels, and phase 4 will be
residential floors of two levels.

stormwater in Braamfischerville

The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) invites tenders
for the completion of the up to R130-million construction
of roads and stormwater in Braamfischerville Ext 12. The
project entails the completion of the upgrade of gravel to
surface roads, inclusive of stormwater and ancillary works.
A compulsory tender clarification meeting with
representatives of the JDA took place at The Bus Factory in
December 2018. The successful tenderer will be expected
to manage the component of emerging subcontractor, who
will be responsible for executing portions of the work.
Some 30% of the work will be allocated to emerging
SMMEs. Tenderers should have a CIDB contractor grading
designation of 8CE or 7CEPE or higher. Joint ventures are
eligible to submit tenders, provided that they satisfy criteria
stated in the tender data.

The Bank Rosebank
The Qiti Bridge upgrade is part of wider upgrades being
commissioned by Sanral on the N2 in the Eastern Cape.

The Qiti Bridge is expected to be completed by
July. It forms part of a road safety upgrade project,
the purpose of which is to improve vehicular
and pedestrian safety, according to the consultants
Hatch. The latter was appointed by Sanral for the
design and supervision of the project, and the
project in the Eastern Cape forms part of a larger
project that includes the construction of three other
bridges.
The main contractor on the project is construction
company Triamic Construction. Formwork and
scaffolding manufacturer PERI was appointed by
Triamic Construction to undertake the design and
supply of the formwork and traffic window for the
construction of the bridge. The project includes
intersection upgrades, the building of four bridges,
three vehicular underpasses, seven livestock
underpasses, and several community access roads to
improve the flow of traffic on the R61.
The Qiti Bridge has been designed to
accommodate vehicles, pedestrians, and livestock,
and the balustrades have been increased in height
to ensure that livestock cross the bridge safely
while pedestrians are accommodated on a sidewalk.
Prior to the construction of the bridge, vehicles
on the R61 had to slow down on a blind rise to
exit the road if they were driving to the adjacent
communities. Vehicles now leave the R61 at a
formalised intersection and use the bridge to cross
over the R61, providing safer vehicular movement
on the R61.
