Hyundai presents 5G and AI-based digital tech at bauma 2019
H
yundai Construction Equipment (HCE) presented
the latest digital and eco-friendly technologies at
Germany’s largest construction equipment trade
fair in a bid to penetrate the European market
HCE took part in Bauma 2019 held in Munich, Germany
from 8 to 14 April to introduce new equipment models
that meet the EU stage V emission regulations and
advanced digital technologies related to 5G and artificial
intelligence (AI).
Together with ConExpo in the US and Intermat in
France, bauma is one of the biggest construction equipment
trade fairs in the world. HCE’s 2 660m 2 stand at the fair
displays 15 construction equipment products comprised of
11 excavators and four wheel loaders.
Also, by featuring a number of options tailored to local
requirements, such as machine control and tilt rotators,
HCE aims to penetrate the European market.
A separate booth called the ‘Hyundai Connect Room’
was set up to promote its digital technology. Here, visitors
had the chance to try out a mobile application that manages
multiple construction equipment simultaneously. They were
also able see the process of remote diagnosis for excavator
engines through augmented reality (AR) devices.
In addition, with the launch of 5G services in Korea, HCE
and SK Telecom offered a demonstration of Live Caster.
Live Caster gives a real time, ultra-high definition view of
construction sites in Korea to visitors in Germany. HCE
was also the first industry player to unveil technologies
that enable the operator to control equipment and use
convenience features like music and news with voice
command using Amazon’s Alexa.
“At bauma, one can see the technologies and market trends
of the global construction equipment industry at a glance,”

says Kim Dae-soon, CTO and vice president of HCE. “We
aim to expand our market by introducing our latest digital
technologies to the global market and communicating with
customers and industry players.”
Hyundai Core Motion, an HCE parts subsidiary that was
recently launched, also put five key components including
main control valves and hydraulic motors in exhibition,
thereby spurring the effort to enter the European market.
Machine control is an intelligent functionality that
notifies the operator in real time about the positioning,
location and work scope of an excavator through various
sensors and GNSS and at the same time enables automatic
and semi-automatic precision work in accordance with the
work scheme.
Features include:
• Showing remote 5G real-time broadcast and industry’s
first AI-based voice command technology
• Featuring 15 construction equipment products like
excavators and wheel loaders as well as special options
• Targeting the local market with new models that meet
reinforced European environmental regulations. nn
