Giyani Gold Corporation has announced the acquisition of six
new prospecting licenses that encompass the past-producing
Kgwakgwe Hill Manganese Mine located in the Kanye Basin,
south-eastern Botswana. The Kgwakgwe Hill project covers
a supergene system containing high-grade manganese
nodules. Manganese ore mined from 1957 to 1967 at
Kgwakgwe Hill consisted almost entirely of such high-grade
manganese oxide nodules grading 40–50% total manganese.
Giyani signed a definitive agreement with Marcelle Holdings
to acquire an 88% interest in seven prospecting licences
(PL294/2016 to PL300/2016 inclusive).
Giyani is currently executing a regional sampling and
mapping programme on the property, along with selective
bulk sampling and metallurgical testing to better understand
the size and chemical properties of the deposit.

The Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State Rural Roads Authority
has received funds from the World Bank towards the cost of
an agricultural growth programme (AGP-II) and it intends to
apply part of the funds of this aid to payments under the
contract for construction of the Chancho culvert construction
project. The Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State Rural Roads
Authority under the AGP-II programme invites any eligible
contractors to submit sealed bids for the construction of the
Chancho culvert construction project, which is located in the
Benishangul-Gumuz regional state Metekel Zone.

The geometry of the Malingunde deposit is one of several
high-grade, shallow to moderate north-east-dipping
mineralised zones. The deposit is located at Malingunde, just
15km south-west of Lilongwe, Malawi's capital. Sovereign
is targeting the near-surface, soft saprolite portion of the
resource to a maximum vertical depth of about 25m. This
results in several long, shallow open pits in the mining plant.
The tailings management facility for the project has been
designed to safely contain the LoM estimated tailings of
7.3 million tonnes. The capital costs have been estimated
at USD29-million.
Aircore drilling was conducted in late 2017, with
210 holes for 6 212 metres completed. The drilling
programme was designed to further define and upgrade
the JORC resource classification levels for inclusion in
the Malingunde Pre-feasibility Study, as well as to test
graphite mineralisation at Malingunde South Extension
and other targets. The results continue to confirm the
excellent consistency of high-grade mineralisation along
strike, as well as the substantial vertical thickness of the
deposit, and will be incorporated into the updated JORC
resource estimate, expected to be delivered in early
second quarter of 2018. Value: R100-million+.
