HORROR FILMS EVOLUTION
Horror has been present on tradition, since humans have been able to communicate among them. In the 1920s, horror, by that time present only in literature, entered into a new stage, which transformed the whole horror industry: cinematography. After that, horror films became the favourites of many people, and now, consequently, is one of the most important genres of the big screen. Since their creation, in the early XX century, horror films were designed to scare the audience, obviously, in different ways. According to people’s expectative, horror films had been being modified, passing through different topics, characteristics, protagonists and audiences, which will be exposed, at least most of them, later in this text.
During the 1920s and 1930s, the first horror films were made. They were just some remakes of classic stories, such as “Frankenstein”, “Dracula”, or “The Mommy”, but they had a great quality for the time. Unfortunately, in the 1940s there was a decline in the horror film industry, mainly because of the World War II. Nevertheless, there are some important classics from this period, like “Wolf Man”, “Cat People”, “The House of Dracula”, and “The House of Frankenstein”.
