The Christmas Table: Christmas recipes and tutorials A celebration of all things Christmas! | Página 24

About the Author Karen Stack I made my first fondant covered cake in January 2010, when Owen turned 3. It was a chocolate cake covered in black icing, a yellow paper border that read ‘Happy Birthday Owen’ and a few awkwardly placed stars covered in glitter. So then began a love affair with cake decorating. I started attending cake decorating classes and slowly took over the kitchen cupboards with my ‘equipment’. On baking days the kids would come running, each screaming “mum can we lick the bowl”. And so, just like that, my facebook page was born! To be honest, I enjoy the decorating side much more than I do the baking! I love clean simple designs and often find myself procrastinating over fine details. The caking world has offered me many wonderful experiences and through it I have made an amazing network of friends. Hands down Christmas is my most favourite time of the year. I remember when I was about 5 I found a piece of white cotton on the end of Grandpa’s bed. “It’s from Santa’s whiskers” he exclaimed. I think my eyes nearly popped right out of my head. Now I get to witness that same look of pure excitement on my own children’s faces. Nothing on earth beats the sound of laughter and excitement from Owen and Macy on Christmas morning.
