We were out of their league anyway: How to deal with a great loss

February 7th 2016: The day that held so much promise.

The Super Bowl is one of the most watched television events in the world, and with that comes a lot of hype. With the Panthers entering the big game with only one loss, they were the clear favorites to win. Vegas placed the Panthers as a 5.5-point favorite over the Broncos.

After the annihilation of both the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals, the Panthers had a mountain of momentum but also a dangerous amount of confidence.

Cam Newton had just won the league's MVP award, and he was as cocky as possible. Up until the kickoff all Panther fans believed that the Panthers were going to win, but as the game progressed, the hope quickly diminished. The team was not firing on all cylinders and did not seem to want to win nearly as much as their fan base did.

As the final seconds ticked off the game clock, the reality of what just happened began to sink in. The confetti showered the field, and the other team lifted up the famed Lombardi Trophy. The players slowly hobbled off the field in shame, and the thousands of Panther fans had to find a way to accept what they had just witnessed.
