Coach Hastings explains the current standing of the football team and what they need to do to stay successful.

The new head coach of the Providence Day football team Adam Hastings has led the chargers to 5-3 record.

The most exciting part of the season so far for Coach Hastings was at the preseason camps when he got to know the players and coaches a lot more. Coach Hastings spent the five years at Ardrey Kell High School as the Head Football Coach. He explains that he was a teacher at Providence Day School for 1.5 years, as a teacher and an offensive coordinator. “Previous to my first stint at PDS, I spent one year as the offensive coordinator as Ardrey Kell and two years as the offensive line coach at East Burke High School,” Hastings explains. This just goes to show that he is very qualified to lead our school in football.

Coach Hastings said, “The community and the future drew me back to PDS.” He explained his first year has been great meeting the community and seeing the efforts the players are giving out. The team has had a tough first four weeks matching up against tough opponents but has fought to keep the season a success.

Some key players have been Eric Cal and Cameron Goldean who both have been playing both sides of the ball. Eric Cal has a total of 28 tackles and four sacks. Cameron has 18 catches for a total of 282 yards, and one touchdown, along with 20 tackles. Some other notable players are Ross Berry, Solomon Key, and Elijah Brown.

Hastings explains that there are still high hopes for the team making the playoffs. Hastings thinks that the rest of the season will run smoothly if they just shorten up and take each game one at a time.

Hastings explains that the team tries not to spend much time worrying about their opponents, but to focus on what they need to be successful. “We know we have the ability to win, and we cannot control what our opponents do. What we can control is what we do.”

When asked what he is going to do differently next year, Hastings said he wants to involve the community. He is hoping to get more and more supporters, and hopes to get them into the game to motivate their players. With all the accomplishments and goals that Hastings has made this season, he has shown Providence Day that he is more than qualified to lead the Varsity Boys Football team.
