PDS Has A Voice
By Sam Coover and Will Reid
The chorus is off to a strong start this year. When asked about how she felt about this year's chorus group, chorus director Mrs. Tilson said, "I feel really good this about this group. They're wonderful. We have some new people who've come in, who are good readers, and they're helping the whole group that way." It is clear the group has a great dynamic, with many strong new voices.
One exciting new development in chorus is the addition of new songs. The chorus will stick with some classics this year, such as "Build Me Up Buttercup", but there will be some new additions. They will be doing some Beatles songs, such as "Yesterday", and "In My Life" to honor the 40th anniversary of their release. They will also be adding some songs in other languages. The chorus will be performing a South African piece and a piece in Latin.
Another development this year is the Faculty/Staff Choir. This choir is new this year, and they already have over 30 members. They have already performed once in assembly with the Upper School Chorus, and performed well. Mrs. Tilson said, "It's actually been good for the Upper Schoolers because the faculty come into our Upper School rehearsal sometimes, and it helps the Upper Schoolers because they like having the faculty in there every once in awhile. It's interesting for them." It is good to see such a well developed connection between the Faculty/Staff Choir and the chorus, especially after such a short time.
It is good to see how strong the Chorus is. Between the Upper School Chorus and the Faculty/Staff Choir, the Providence Day music department has a very bright future ahead of it this year. The music performances in assembly will be fabulous, and the chorus will be a good group to watch in competition.
