24 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER Wilsonville library By GREG MARTIN Check out the upcoming library events Well we’ve survived the worst of winter, so please join me MARTIN in shak- ing off the frigid slush and hoping that Punxsutawney Phil is right and March will herald the beginning of a warm and sunny spring, with en- joyment for us all. Here’s what’s happening this month on the adult side of the Library: Do you know someone who would like to brush up on English? Please tell them about our two weekly ESL of- ferings! We now host a week- ly English Class, as well as a Conversation Group. Better yet, both now occur on the same day each week: Mon- day! This month we’ll have five meetings for each class, March 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30, with the class beginning at 11 a.m. and the group beginning at 6 p.m. In the class, you will find lessons and informal struc- ture, while in the group, par- ticipants can drop in to learn and practice with other learn- ers. All levels of proficiency are welcome, and no registra- tion is necessary. On Friday, March 6, at 6 p.m. our First Friday Film program rides into town. We’re prohibited by overzeal- ous copyright laws from tell- ing you the name of this March 2020 month’s film, but we can say that it’s a film about a detec- tive investigating the death of a patriarch of an eccentric, combative family. I guess all the knives will be out as the film progresses! If you still can’t elucidate the title of this film, give us a call at the library, and we’ll tell you very quietly! Free ad- mission, and we’ve even got snatchable snacks that you can make an optional dona- tion for, or else feel guilty in perpetuity! On Saturdays, March 7, 14, 21, and 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., we’ll have experts avail- able for tax help! No appoint- ment necessary, but you may want to show up early! Expe- rienced tax preparers can an- swer your questions and help you fill out your tax forms each Saturday, through April 11. Please don’t forget all of your 2019 necessary docu- mentation and your 2018 tax records. Also on Saturday, March 7, at 1 p.m., please join us for a free Space Talk! Are we alone? Learn about the search for life in the universe, and why searching for the presence of water is so impor- tant. Presented by John Jen- nings, docent at Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum. It’s our monthly profiles lecture, this time featuring Women of the Stars! Please visit us on Sunday, March 8, at 1:30 p.m. to look at astrono- mers whose ground-breaking, sky-opening work we should all know, and whose lives should inspire all of us —es- pecially young women — to advance our world toward a better future. These free talks explore the people, places and events that shape our lives, our world, and our universe. Presented by Dr. Bill Thier- felder, Professor Emeritus and docent at the American Museum of Natural History. On Tuesday, March 10, at 6 p.m., our Great Books Dis- cussion Group gathers. Are you interested in philosophy and the big questions of life? Join us each month for a roundtable discussion of how modern day issues are re- flected and illuminated by the great Western classic books. This month, we’ll be discuss- ing a couple of New Testa- ment books; namely, the Gos- pel according to St. Matthew, and the Acts of the Apostles. Call or email us to join our Great Books emailing list and receive monthly links to on- line versions of our group readings. The euphonious notes of our free monthly Booknotes Concert will palpate your ear- drums on Saturday, March 14, at 2 p.m. This time around, we’re showcasing the Port- land Guitar Duo, featuring James Manuele and Foti Lycouridis. The Portland Guitar Duo focuses on histori- See WILSONVILLE LIBRARY / Page 27 St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church Sunday 8:00 am Holy Eucharist This liturgy follows The Book of Common Prayer and the service is printed in the bulletin for you to follow.
