THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER 23 January 2020 Civic Affairs By WAYNE RICHARDS Aurora Airport should follow Oregon Land Use laws We ap- plaud the support of our Char- bonneau Country Club Board RICHARDS in voting unanimous- ly to support the Land Use Board of Appeals (LUBA) action against the Ore- gon Aviation Board’s (OAB) de- cision “approving” the Aurora Airport Master Plan. We were very pleased that Mayor Knapp and Councilor Linville attended and expressed their views re- garding the OAB’s decision that Charbonneau is not an affected community in their ill-con- ceived “master plan” runway extension. Of course, we’re affected! A motion was proposed and second- ed that Charbonneau, City of Wil- sonville and Clackamas County have an interest in all matters re- lated to the Aurora Airport and therefore each of these organiza- tions should have a seat at the ta- ble in any and all decisions about the future of the airport. Furthermore, all matters con- cerning the Aurora State Airport should follow Oregon Land Use laws especially as it relates to public involvement and protec- tion of farmland and our health, safety, property values and quali- ty of life. We are not alone in this effort. 1000 Friends of Oregon with Friends of French Prairie, Clackamas County, The City of Aurora, our great city of Wilson- ville and Aurora City Planner Joseph Schaefer are appealing the OAB decision. 1000 Friends of Oregon says, “The Oregon Department of Aviation’s attempt to skirt the rules of our state land use plan- ning program will not go unchal- lenged. Oregon’s statewide plan- ning Goal 3 establishes Exclu- sive Farm Use zoning to protect our state’s billion-dollar agricul- tural economy. Yet, the Oregon Department of Aviation contin- ues to provide sub-par evidence to justify trading our agricultur- al economy for a bigger airport serving luxury corporate jets.” The problem with the “master plan” is that it ignores land use rules and fails to address prob- lems with infrastructure, land use, governance, economics, public process and environment. Over the next several months we’ll have time set aside at the CCC for detailed facts we’ve ac- cumulated over 15 years plus. There is no need for a runway extension. The airport is fine just how it is. The COLD is HERE, How’s the car doing? Battery, Anti Freeze, Belts etc. CWGA ■From Page 22 ■ To comply with the rules and regulations of Charbonneau Golf Club, Inc. ■ To maintain the integrity of the USGA Handicap System so that each member may have a fair and equal chance to compete in golfing activities. ■ To promote the game of golf and encour- age sportsmanship and golf fellowship among its members.
