10 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER Charbonneau Book Club By DOROTHY HOCHHALTER Upcoming stories sure to provoke discussion We finally scheduled a love story for the month of February Valentine’s Day. We will discuss the memoir “Temperance Creek” by Pamela Royes. OB Sports Q From Page 9 true pioneer in the golf course man- agement industry. Vincent recog- nized the need for additional leader- ship and supervision at a golf opera- tion, and built a company and team based upon his own personal experi- ences as a multi-talented golf execu- tive with expertise in all facets of development, management and op- eration of golf facilities. Named a Top 100 Business in Golf by the National Golf Foundation in 2018, OB Sports is proud to have roots in the Pacific Northwest, where it held a corporate office from 1994 through 2001 at nearby Lang- don Farms Golf Club. The compa- ny’s executive team, construction division and John Fought Design all conducted day-to-day operations February 2020 Royes is a rest- less young girl, not ready for col- lege, when she meets a Vietnam vet, Skip. He in- vites her to join him on a horse HOCHHALTER back trip from the wilderness of the Wallowa country to the Snake River Canyon in Idaho. Along the way they meet snakes, wild animals, outlaws and learn the tasks required of a sheepherder. You will want to join them as they hit this remote trail and enjoy nature. Life is hard, living off the land and getting to know this stranger that is your companion. Pam and Skip later get married and live in Joseph, Oregon with their family rais- ing cattle. We will review this book on Feb. 11 and we welcome visitors. It has been our practice to read a classic book at least once each year. On Feb. 25 we will be discussing “The Picture of Dorian Gray” by Oscar Wil- de. He was a prolific writer of plays, poems and short stories, but this was his only novel. First published in 1891 (considered the decadent era) it was treated with hostility by the British Press for its subject of morality and art. The book became the center of a trial that ended with his imprison- ment in 1895. A broken man, he died in 1900. The contrast between the two books should provoke a lot of conver- sation. We meet twice a month on the second and fourth Tuesday from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Charbonneau Counttry Club. We enjoy a casual discussion led by one of our members who do some research into the author. Everyone is encouraged to join into our discus- sions. Feel free to call or email me at [email protected] if you have any questions. from Langdon Farms.
