THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER 5 April 2020 Sunshine Service By JOAN VEDDER New volunteers will be listed in spring directory Have you all adjusted to the proper “time”? Personally I love the exten- sion of daylight, it gives me more time for VEDDER all my projects. This past week was spent thinning a wonderful old apple tree that produces a zil- lion apples every year. Maybe thinning it down will cut down said production? I can only give away so many bags each Septem- ber. Here’s a great story that must have a moral — not sure just what, but it was a defining moment for me last Saturday! I was painting a sweet little chair (that I bought at Goodwill for $6) and was applying the second coat of primer. I was on my hands and knees in our living room, doing the task... a chair sat on a little piece of plastic to protect the floor. Well, I stood up and was going to step over the paint can to reach the other side of chair, and... you guessed it. Must have connected with the stir stick that stands up in can, and it acted like an efficient le- ver. Over went the can , spilling about half of it all over the floor! Of course I managed to step in it, add- ing insult to injury, and had to think faster than I ever have in my life. Husband came running, bringing every rag I had stashed in laundry room, paper towels, a spoon (yes, a spoon) a plastic bag and so on. Long story short, I cleaned it up so well you’d never know it happened! Hardwood floors saved the day be- cause carpeting would have had a different ending. Anyway, the little chair is looking real good; come on over someday and check it out. Now, back to the real column which is supposed to be about Sun- shine Service! (I digress some- times). Our inventory is in good shape right now, with several of every item you might need. Those of you who still have items from months back, don’t forget to return them. One of us can help pick things up if you cannot handle that yourself. Recently, a couple of people asked the following: Q Do we have a hospital bed? (No we don’t) Q Do we have a tilt-recliner? (No we don’t) Those items would be close to im- possible to store or deliver. Howev- er, you can rent unusual things from McCann’s Pharmacy over in King City. Rates are reasonable and they do deliver! We thank those neighbors who have donated things to us. I can al- ways find a home for things even if we don’t need them. I start with Sadie Wallenberg over at the senior center in town and if she doesn’t need anything, I move onto Medical Teams Interna- tional up in Tualatin. That is a marvelous charity ac- cepting all things mobile — walk- ers, crutches, wheelchairs, etc. They load up a huge container, place it on a ship, and deliver these items around the world to war torn countries where they are so needed. When the new CCC Directory is published this spring, you will see a whole new column of volunteers! Many from the old group will still be listed but we will add the half dozen who have volunteered to sup- port us. Thank you again, I guarantee you will love the job of serving your community!
