BUYING YOUR NEXT VEHICLE
SHOULD BE “A REAL JOY!”
By ZOE NIKLAS
How to restore
foster children
I watched her lips move as she
nervously patted her hair in place. “I
am so sorry honey, but this is not
working out. I was hoping for a com-
panion for my daughter, but your
life story is so horrible that you take
all the attention from my daughter. I
have warned you not to share your
story, but you have, so you must go
back to the Youth Center. Your case
worker will be here shortly to take
you back, so go pack.”
Placing my nightgown and my doll
in my little blue Barbie Doll case, I felt
ashamed. I had failed again. I wasn’t
good enough to keep. I sighed and left
with my caseworker.
Restoring foster and adopted chil-
dren’s lives is a passion of mine. I
have found the same passion within
the hearts of the Cypress Branch vol-
unteers of the Boys and Girls Aid So-
ciety. This group of volunteers choos-
es to make a difference in the lives of
Oregon’s foster children. That is why I
joined them although I don’t reside in
Charbonneau. Boys and Girls Aid has
been helping children for 135 years
this 2020 and the Cypress Branch has
been operating for 30 years. This orga-
nization passes happiness to children
and deserves community support.

from infants to youth aging out.
Through DHS, each child’s situation is
assessed and referred to Boys and
Girls Aid’s programs. Boys and Girls
Aid carefully screens all of the place-
ments and counsels foster and adop-
tive parents for as long as is needed.
To find out more about the pro-
grams available to meet our youth’s
specific needs, come to our next lun-
cheon at SpringRidge Oct. 18. It starts
at 11:30 a.m. Cost at the door is $15. To
come as a guest, call Cherrie Sanville

Join us for St. Francis Day
O
n Oct. 6, St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church will be celebrat-
ing the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi. St. Francis saw in all
creation—animals, plants, stars, people—the beautiful evidence
of God’s handiwork. We are so honored to share in the name of
this beloved saint, and we all continually strive to be worthy of his name.
On this day during either of the church services at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.,
people are invited to bring their animals to church for a personal blessing
during the service. It is both a fun, and yet very moving experience to have
your little dog, cat, turtle or parakeet blessed and honored.
Come and enjoy books donated by Charbonneau residents.
