16 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER November 2019 Charbonneau Women’s Golf Association By CATHI MCLAIN Don’t forget to renew your membership by Dec. 31 I f not for our veterans, we might not be able to enjoy the freedoms we often take for granted, includ- ing the ability to celebrate life at Charbonneau. We have bid most of the snowbirds goodbye till spring, and those of us who enjoy our resort- living here year-round are settling in for the fall and winter, with the hope that there will be enough rain-free days to allow us to play golf through the winter. It has been a terrific year for CWGA and we can all take pride in the camaraderie, fun and great golf we played during the season — even if the great golf was only in our dreams. As outgoing president, I have been honored to lead the great group of women who make up Charbonneau Women’s Golf Association. During my two terms, I have often said that being president is the easiest job on the board, thanks to the overwhelming tal- ent and time that our members contrib- ute to making our season of golf a suc- cess. I think it is indicative of many as- pects of life in Charbonneau, and for this, I am truly grateful. Oct. 3, organized by Karen Miller and Lynda Huber Marshall. Starting with a shotgun scramble, the event was supposed to transition into “Best Day Ever” costumes and a horserace that would lead into our annual meeting and awards, dinner and entertain- ment. With four holes left to play, a clap of thunder in the distance and heavy rain, had players “scrambling” to finish the scramble before the light- ning caught up with them. No one wanted to play a horserace in a chilly downpour, so Coleen Larson, organiz- er of the horserace, regrouped and turned it into a dice game, with cock- tails and popcorn in The Turn. Con- gratulations to the lucky winners, in- cluding third place, Judy Wilcox and Pat Struckman; second place, Kathie Barton, Kathy Barr and Laurie Bales; first place, Jackie Peters, Dana Rich- mond and Sandy Spencer. Karen Miller and Lynda Huber Marshall an- nounced the winners of the day’s scramble and costume competition. Tournament winners from the season were recognized with personalized bag tags. Handicap Chairs Charlotte Nicholas and Diane Meyers an- nounced the Most Improved Player for the year and Day’s Play Chair Terry Borst announced the Eclectic Winners and awarded chip-in prize money for the season. The annual meeting ended with the election of officers and the passing of the gavel from Cathi McLain to new Brenda Hankins, 2019 Most Improved Player. president Joann Linville. The eve- ning’s highlight was a performance by The Niners and several numbers from their annual variety show. Their fina- le number of “You’ve Got a Friend” from Toy Story earned a standing ovation and a reminder that in Char- bonneau, all golfers are FRIENDS.
