2 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER May 2019 CCC President’s report Red Cross shelter volunteers needed By KATHY HARP CHARBONNEAU COUNTRY CLUB PRESIDENT Don’t miss the Charbonneau Country Club annual meeting By SANDRA BATTE, FOR THE VILLAGER C harbonneau Country Club is Disaster volunteer training in the final phase of becoming May 23, 1-5 p.m. an official Red Cross shelter CCC dining room that could be used in the event of a disaster. When a fire or weather event temporarily displaces nearby residents, the Red Cross would provide not just shelter, but a wide array of services to get them back on their feet. We are particularly interested in Charbonneau residents getting this training. When the “Big One” hits, the Red Cross will not be able to reach Charbonneau and so experienced, well-trained local residents may be able to help us all provide some shelter and comfort to our community. A first step in becoming a Red Cross volunteer begins with an online application at redcross.org. The Red Cross then requires some basic screening and training be done online prior to specific activity training. They use the acronym GAP which designates which group, activity and position a volunteer will be involved in. For shelter volunteers the GAP is: ■ Group: mass care ■ Activity: sheltering ■ Position: service associate Training for becoming a shelter volunteer can actually be done online but the Red Cross has indicated that one or two of the classes specific to shelter training can be done in a classroom setting. For anyone who wants to take the May 23 disaster volunteer training at the CCC dining room from 1-5 p.m., they will have to register as a Red Cross volunteer, be approved and complete the prerequisite online courses before this date. The class is called “Shelter Fundamentals” and is also available online for anyone who cannot make it on May 23. For questions contact Linda Ornelas at [email protected]; Judee Fehsenfeld at [email protected] or 503-694-1190 or Sandy Batte at [email protected] or 503-694-8137. ■ The Charbonneau Country Club annual meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at the clubhouse. Three candidates submitted applications to serve on the CCC Board of Directors. The candidates are Bob Harland, Anne Shevlin and Steve Switzer. All candidates met the qualifications outlined in the CCC Board election policies, were interviewed by the Nominating Committee and approved by the CCC Board of Directors at the April meeting. A two-question personal statement of qualifications for each candidate will be included with the ballots which will be mailed the first part of May. Please return your ballots to the CCC office before the May 15 deadline. The CCC Board continues to work on ideas for the Annex. It was recently discovered that there is a public utility/ sewer easement right next to the Annex on Letter to to the the editor Letter editor By AVERYL HARTJE Thank you Charbonneau for your kindness and generosity to the Wilsonville High School Thespian Group. This will be taken into consideration as we move forward. I hope you took time to read the FAQ sheet that was recently sent out by the community outreach task force. We followed that mailing with a survey mailed to all community members. There is much work to be done — your input is extremely important. Residents can also make comments by emailing us at office@ charbonneaucountryclub.com. One of our board committees has recently taken on the task of revising our operating manual. This manual provides the guidelines for the operation and management of the Charbonneau Country Club and defines the responsibilities for the Board of Directors. The documents within the manual establish the governing rules, regulations and guiding principles for all Charbonneau residents. It will be an ongoing process as we continue to review the different parts of this important manual. We are continuing to discuss the intricacies of combining Charbonneau Country Club with the Charbonneau Golf Course. We will keep you posted as the details unfold in the months ahead.
