18 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER May 2019 Charbonneau Men’s Club By JOHN MCLAIN Thank you, golfi ng moms of Charbonneau “Success in golf depends less on strength of body than upon strength of mind and character.” — Arnold Palmer It’s May, and that means Mother’s Day is here this month. Moms are often important to golf. Greg Norman has been quoted to have said, “I owe a lot to my parents, especially my mother and father.” For many of our Men’s Club members, our parents played an important role in our pursuit of sports, and for some that included golf. Even if our mom didn’t play golf, she certainly was the support person who allowed dad and/or son to go off to play a round. At Charbonneau, moms are very active in the golfing community. Many moms are part of the two clubs that total about 200 members: Niners and Charbonneau Women’s Golf Association (CWGA). They often join the dads in the Men’s Club for a round of golf at one of the “holiday couples’ events” held throughout the year. I’m happy to say that my wife is an avid golfer, and often asks “how about we play a round today,” to which I always answer, “Yes dear.” At our family gatherings, mom always suggests a day of golf would be an excellent idea. To my children, mom is a golfing role model. Don’t forget to share and be thankful for many good stories and memories of moms on the golf course. Let’s all be thankful to the golfing moms of Charbonneau, whether they play or just support those family members who do. Golf Events Results Saturday, April 6 — The Men’s Club golf season kicked off with a “Tee Off Breakfast” celebration for the members who scored a hole-in-one in the past year. There were pools of water on all the greens. By 9:30 a.m. the weather permitted us to tee off. After the first few holes, the rain stopped, sun came out and it was a very fine few hours of golf. It was a team game (scramble) and the top three teams were: 1 - Gene Harp + Denny Gaibler + Joe Sharpsteen 2 - Mike Brown + Dave Massing + Zia Yamayee 3 - Bill Bray + Lee Zinsli Mark Your Calendar Check the website GOLF menu for a complete list of major Events scheduled for this year.
