Health and a good
mystery on this
month’s slate
Our first choice for this month is a
nonfiction book "Slow Medicine (the
way of healing)" by Victoria Sweet.
Over her 20 years of experience as a
physician Sweet
has come to the
conclusion that the
new technology has improved health
care but time is needed to respond
to bodies in order to arrive at a
correct diagnosis and right
treatment. Each chapter is an
extremely interesting story of one of
her many cases. I found myself
fascinated by her techniques and am
sure we will have a spirited
discussion at our meeting March 12.

Staff are available for
presentations on local
agriculture and fl ora
Local farmers are busy during the
winter, too. Sure, some take a break,
rest and recuperate from the past
season. But most are busy in the
winter tending to equipment repairs
and/or acquisitions, trying to figure
out market niches for the coming
year, securing land agreements if
they rent ground, determining how
to manage their labor needs, plus
staying up-to-date on the latest
If you enjoy a good mystery we
are reading "An Unmarked Grave"
by Charles Todd. This is one of the
Bess Crawford series that takes
place during WWI. She is a British
nurse working in the French
battlefields when she discovers that
the murder of an officer that she
knows has been covered up as a war
death. Before she can report this to
the authorities she falls extremely
ill with Spanish flu that was a
deadly epidemic in 1918. What
follows is a look back at the effect
the Spanish flu had on this war.
Fortunately Bess recovers and is
relentless in her pursuit of solving
this crime. Todd is also the author of
the Inspector Ian Rutledge series
and several other novels written by
this mother and son team. Please
join us on March 26 when we explore
this interesting concept.
We meet on the 2nd and 4th
Tuesday of each month at the
Charbonneau Country Club from 1
to 2:30 p.m. We welcome visitors and
everyone is encouraged to
contribute to the discussion lead by
one of our members. Questions?

Researchers and educators at the
North Willamette Research and
Extension Center are busy designing
and delivering educational programs
to meet the growers' needs. Already
this winter we have hosted more
than 3,000 farmers from around the
Valley at meetings and update
sessions designed for vegetable
growers, organic farmers, hazelnut
growers, blueberry farmers,
strawberry growers, Christmas tree
farmers, nursery growers and
specialty seed producers. Oregon

available for presentations about
Oregon agriculture and the latest
happenings across the Miley Road.

While other insurers just see a set of wheels, I take the time to see
