There are a variety of program offerings rang- ing from fitness to arts, and from day- time to evening classes. Do you have grandkids coming to visit this summer? Bridge Basics and Beyond: Drop-In Lessons Know the basics and want to learn more? Need to brush up? Want to be- come a better declarer or defender? This ongoing, no-charge program will cover the latest bidding and playing techniques. There will be lectures, quizzes and pre-dealt hands to practice with. Come learn some new skills on Thursdays, 10-11:30 a.m. at the Wilson- ville Community Center. Hatha Yoga Hatha yoga is a main branch of yoga from which many styles are derived. In hatha yoga (pronounced ha-ta), you will practice a series of traditional yoga pos- tures including seated, standing (plus balance), prone, inversions, along with breath (pranayama) practices meant to align the structure of the body, opening its many energy channels, all to create optimal function. Because various styles of yoga may be incorporated into this class, you’ll experience a variety that ensures growth, challenge and an appreciation for what yoga truly offers. Although this class is open to all levels, previous yoga experience is helpful. Please bring your own yoga mat. All other props are provided. The class will meet on Thursdays (July 11-Aug.15) from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Wilsonville Community Center. Cost for the class is $42. Long-term Care 101 Long-term care is affordable! Class topics will include Medicaid planning, preserving and protecting assets, and veteran’s benefits. Alzheimer’s Education The Alzheimer’s Association is pleased to present an ongoing series of free educational classes at the Wilson- ville Parks & Recreation Administra- tive Offices, 29600 S.W. Park Place. Sessions will take place the second Thursday of each month and run from 10-11:30 a.m. For additional informa- tion on class topics, and to register for your spot, please contact the Alzheim- er’s Association at 1-800-272-3900. 7/11 - Know the 10 Signs Gain an understanding of the differ- ences between age-related memory loss and Alzheimer’s and what to do if someone has signs of the disease. 8/8 - Understanding and Responding to Dementia-Related Behavior During the middle stage of demen- tia, the person with the disease often starts to exhibit new behaviors that can be confusing for a caregiver. These behaviors are a form of communica- tion, and are essential to understand- ing the needs of the person with de- mentia. This session will help caregiv- ers identify common triggers for be- haviors associated with dementia, ex- plain the process for assessing and identifying challenging behaviors and list strategies to address some com- mon dementia-related behaviors.
