in golf rules for 2019
The 2019 CWGA golf season is here! There are
both many enjoyable events planned and new golf
rule updates to keep us involved and up to date.
As of March 1 our membership was at 88 women
with nine of those new to the group. Please
remember that members are welcome to play 9 or
18 holes at their discretion. Also, as of March 1,
USGA requires members to post scores every time
they play, except when playing alone.
Once a month, from January to March, an
informal lunch at The Turn was organized by the
Membership Committee — Jan Ferguson, Jan
Holley and Jean Czubin. Not only did it keep us in
touch with one another, it provided valuable
presentations by Joann Linville on the new rules
of golf.
Plans are being finalized for the April 4
Welcome Back Breakfast. We would like to
complete the CWGA 2019 photo album at that
time. Laura Curran will be taking individual
pictures in the Fireside Room during breakfast.
Please check to MAKE SURE your picture will be
included. Volunteers will also be requested at the
breakfast to assist with the May Scramble and
luncheon. You won’t want to miss the festive
Mexican-themed May event, Sinko de Putto! More
information will follow soon.
With so many changes to simplify the rules of
golf, it is anything but simple for golfers who have
played under the old ones for so long! With that in
mind, CWGA has provided a link on our website to
print “Highlights of the 2019 Rules of Golf
Changes” from OGA. The great thing about this
material is that it is brief and can be printed and
assembled into a small packet to store away in a
golf bag for reference. Another useful tool is
provided from the App Store on cell phones.
Search for “USGA Rules of Golf.” This handy
program offers searchable rules, diagrams and
rule interpretation. It can provide an easy
resource on the golf course. Also, if you haven’t
already done so, you can pick up your copy of the
2019 Rules of Golf book in the Pro Shop. Check off
your name as you do so and CWGA will cover the
cost.
Welcome back to the CWGA golf season! ■
