14 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER
Sunshine Service
By JOAN VEDDER
Don’t forgot us when
you need to pass on
your medical equipment
Welcome to
spring! (However as
I’m writing this, we
had snow showers
last night?) Thanks
to those of you who
noticed this column
was NOT included in the March
issue. Hopefully you all remember
that our service can be reached any
week day, from 9- 5. The list of
volunteers is in your Charbonneau
Directory and those few who might
have escaped wintry weather in the
NW are returning home now.
One thing I mention from time to
time, is the issue of YOU donating
items to us. It’s such an honor to us
that you think of “Sunshine” when
you have an extra piece of
April 2019
equipment. Quite often our inventory
is basically full but I can find a home
for many things! Medical Teams
International (in Tigard) will take
walkers, wheelchairs, canes,
crutches, shower benches. They will
NOT take toilet items such as
commodes, toilet seats etc.
You are welcome to drop things off
at my house and I will make an effort
to deliver them to the correct place ...
please always phone me first to
discuss your donation? There have
been times when my front porch
looks vaguely like a Nursing Facility!
Don’t forget the two ‘knee
scooters’ that we invested in last
year. They make life so much easier
if you have foot or ankle surgery.
They are usually checked out for 4-6
weeks at a time.
Last but not least, please
remember to return items that you
have checked out and are finished
using ... we need to keep track of each
and every piece that we loan out.
Check out the daffodils, tulips,
bluebells etc. this month! ■

CCC Board
By BOB HARLAND
Board works on understanding
responsibilities, possibilities
In early February,
27 board members and
staff met together to
learn more about
doing their jobs as
servants of our
community. Among
them were six members of the CCC
Board of Directors, 16 board members
from the constituent HOAs and five
staff members. The two-hour session
was planned by the CCC Board and
featured Dave Schwindt, a certified
public accountant and reserve study
consultant, and Kyle Grant, an
attorney from the law firm Vial
Fotheringham. Among the topics
covered were: Oregon’s Planned
Community Act, financial obligations
of board members, reserve studies
and board meeting basics.

Reviews of the session were very
positive but it was very clear that
participants wanted more of the
same. With that very positive
feedback, the CCC Board will plan
additional board development
sessions in the future and, when they
do, they will make them longer.
Moreover, a stronger effort will also
be made to encourage participation
by more board members from the
constituent HOAs.
There were no costs incurred by
either the CCC or the participants as
this session was organized with the
assistance of what is called CAI
(Community Associations Institute).
CAI is a national organization, with
an Oregon chapter, whose purpose is
to provide resources for HOAs and
their board members. Until it is
possible to schedule other board
development sessions held at the
CCC, board members are encouraged
to attend Portland area activities
sponsored by CAI. They take place at
least monthly. For more information,
contact Bob Harland or Jim Meierotto
at the CCC office. ■
