That’s the underlying theme of our April 9 Charbonneau Women’s Asso- ciation (CWA) program and also the title of a song that pianist and composer Michael Allen Harri- son wrote to inspire and celebrate the spirit of caring and sharing in us all. “This song is dedicated to building an Army of Angels - a community that stands together, where we challenge the norm to create a society that has no barri- ers,” said Michael. “Where people who face developmental and men- tal health challenges are included and empowered. Where families are supported and children have reason to smile. Where every- day people reach out to the most vulnerable and give back to their community.” Michael’s way of accomplish- ing these aspirations is through music - his gift, his strength and his livelihood. He’s coming to Charbonneau with singer Juli- anne Johnson to share those tal- ents and that vision with us on April 9. His Play It Forward Founda- tion is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing instru- ments, instruction and inspiration to deserving children who might not otherwise have the means to learn to play music. Play It For- ward has touched hundreds of lives in our area through thought- ful donations of instruments and sponsorships. “The fact that children can make beautiful music is less sig- nificant than the fact that music can make beautiful children,” Michael said. “We celebrate the families, schools, churches and music outreach programs that are keeping music alive for our youth. As we continue to give the gift of music to our community, we see students thrive and music programs grow. We invite every- one to partner with us.” For example, Molalla High School recently received a baby grand piano. Sunset High School’s new (to them) grand piano doubled their capacity and saved them hundreds of dollars every year in professional moving fees shuttling their single piano from the music room to the audi- torium for shows. Individual students also benefit from the support and encourage- ment. Ella, a new middle school student, wanted to be in band but lacked the funds. She was giv- en a flute last fall and has now played in her first school band re- cital. Two young sisters received a scholarship for lessons and are now happily playing in Michael’s 10 Grands Gala. Last fall, when our CWA Pro- gram Committee arranged for Michael to come perform for us, the Board of Directors committed to supporting the Play It Forward program by soliciting unused in- struments and donations. It also is making a donation of $500 to the Licenses & Bonded Michael Allen Harrison and Julianne Johnson perform at the April CWA Luncheon. CWA is trying to raise money and instruments for Michael's Play It Forward Foundation. Foundation. If you wish to make a financial donation, you can do that at the April luncheon. There will be forms for you to use. To date, CWA has collected a guitar, two violins, two clari- nets, an oboe and two flutes - and there’s room in the van for more! We hope to see you at our heart- warming musical luncheon and program on April 9! The lunch begins at 11:30 am at the Char- bonneau Clubhouse. The cost for members is $20, guests $25. You must reserve your seat(s) by noon of April 5 by depositing your pay- ment in the CWA box in the Club- house Coatroom. Questions? Contact Debbie Bray at 503-694- 1244 or [email protected].
