Engineer Impacts the World One Idea at a Time
Stanley Wallulis, 89, is an Oregon boy through and through.
He was born in Astoria, attended Oregon State University, worked all over the state as a professional civil and environmental engineer and retired to Charbonneau in 1990.
Stanley hasn’ t slowed down in retirement. During his working years, he had ideas whirling round in his head for decades. Now that he has the time, he ' s trying to get four more of them patented. One is already completed, and another is in the process.
Straight out of college, Stan worked in Pendleton as the assistant to the city engineer. When he became qualified, he got his license as engineer, surveyor.
For two years, he worked for the consulting Tenneson and Associates in Pendleton.
Then, Stanley went out on his own at Wallulis and Associates- for cities, developers and corporations that needed survey or engineering work in building and general public.
" The idea for patents started while I was working by myself and had clients in eastern Oregon,
Stan said. " Somewhere in the 1960s, I could see what they were; but the patent project is a tedious process and quite expensive. Back then, I didn’ t have the money. These ideas have been in there( his mind) for gosh, 50 years."
Now that he ' s got the first patent completed, he ' s interested in finding someone in Oregon to help develop the product. A prototype is pictured above.
" I would like to have an Oregon manufacturer, because Oregon has been good to me. I would like for them to build the patent, because I really feel obligated to Oregon."
Stan explains the basis of his first patent: US9.534.418 B2.
" Ninety-nine percent of concrete work on sidewalks is not done the way it should be done. I put re-enforcing steel in my concrete," Stan said.
When concrete expands, it doesn’ t hold together.
To rectify the problem, he designed a fence extender.
This fence base? is completely removable.
" This one you can change out the fence and can cantilever out into the grass area. Change height of fence, etc.," he said.
Stan plans to donate some of the proceeds from his design to help young people.
" I’ ve got to think of some way to help young people. I remember when I was young and poor and needed help," he said.
Stan ' s other potential patents focus on water, waste water and environmental engineering.
