6th Grade Makes
Nature Journals
7th/8th Grade Periodic Table Cupcakes
The 6th grade made nature journals in art with Mr. Jewell. Students
used them on field trips like the AMC
hike that the 6th grade went on in September. They also used the journals
on their trips to Mr. Wurzburg’s farm
and to the woods.
We will use the nature journals a
lot this year. There are pockets for
things you find like leaves, and they
are great for writing down cool facts.
There is a popup map in them, too.
Mr. Jewell has been helping students
create nature journals for eight years
now.

In Team Pack, Ms. MacKinnon’s
science classes made the periodic
table out of cupcakes. We had been
studying the periodic table since the
beginning of the school year, in order
to learn the different parts and structures of the chemical elements.
As our study came to an end, we
finished off in the best way possible:
with cake. We made 84 cupcakes, for
the 84 primordial elements that have
existed since before Earth was
formed.
We relied on classmates to bring in
the necessary ingredients, tools and
materials. As soon as we collected
everything we needed, we made the
cupcakes. Then we frosted them and
used edible writing gel to make the
coordinating symbols.
Thanks to Ms. MacKinnon for letting us do this, because not every
teacher would agree to make 84 cupcakes in class.

A.V. Club is Fun
and Important
The Audio Visual (A.V.) Club is a
great place for thinkers and photographers. We do a lot of important events
and projects during the year, including
video editing, researching, photographing and green screening.
We film the school plays and concerts, and take pictures of important
events like assemblies. Another pro of
A.V. Club
is green
screening:
you film
someone
or something
when they
are standing in front of a green screen, and
then you can switch out the green
background for a better background
(just like news reporters).
We do a lot of fun things in A.V.
Club, and are always looking for more
members. Good students in 6th, 7th
and 8th grade are allowed to join; the
only catch is you have to be approved
by your teachers. The same goes for
joining the Catamount News Network.
AV Club is a great place to focus,
think and do fun work.

Chorus Rocks!
The St. Johnsbury School has an
amazing music department! This
year, we have a large group of 6th
through 8th graders in Chorus.
We are already preparing for our
Christmas concert. We’re singing multiple songs, including “On Top of the
World,” “Hallelujah,” “Nutcracker Jingles” and more. We are working very
hard on learning the songs for our
next concert.
Every year, Chorus
members
have the opportunity to go on a trip to
Boston to watch a Broadway show,
and also to go to Crystal Lake. The
Music department sponsors the
Drive-In Movie Night every year to
raise money for these trips.
We are having a great time!
