Catamount Hoops Program Sporting More Teams than Ever
The 7/8 boys teams are coached by Mr. Buckingham ( back row right) and Mr. Bugbee (back row left).
The Catamount basketball season
is off to a roaring start! Our season
started on November 30 with tryouts,
and conditioning before that.
We play several teams this season, including Danville, Waterford,
Lyndonville and Hartford. We also
participate in several tournaments.
This year, we are welcoming two
Congratulations to the Rodliff
Raiders for winning their second
straight Northern Vermont Youth
Football League championship on
Oct. 31, with a 30-15 victory over
the Lyndon Vikings in St. Albans.
The win capped the second consecutive undefeated season for the
Raiders, who finished 10-0 and extended their winning streak to 20
games.
‘TIME’ is on the Minds of 7/8 Girls Teams
as in what do you want to work on
getting better at this year?
The “M” stands for mental toughness, as in how are you going to push
through something, even though it is
hard?
Our first week of basketball mainly
focused on getting us in shape and
getting comfortable with each other.
On the first day, we ended up filling
out index cards so that our coaches
would be able to know how long we
have been playing basketball and
what we want to
work on throughout the season.
Coach Smith
had us write the
word “TIME”. The
“T” stands for
team, as in what
are you going
to bring to the
team and what
are
your
strengths
and
weakness?
The “I” stands

for improvement,
new teams of 5th and 6th graders to
our program. It is their first year playing basketball for the school.
One of the main reasons those
teams were added to the program is
that there were kids in those grades
who wanted to participate. Having a
true middle school format this has
made it easier to accomplish.
Our coaches this year are Mr.
Buckingham and Mr. Bugbee for the
7/8 boys teams, Mr. McLean and Ms.
Smith for the 7/8 girls teams, Mr. Mulligan for the 5/6 boys team, and Mrs.
Ely for the 5/6 girls team.

The last letter, “E”, stands for enthusiasm, as in what is the thing you
are most excited about doing this season?
Every practice, we need to think
about what part of “TIME” we are going to do better at next practice.
We are scheduled to play 12-14
games this year, in addition to tourna-
ments.
