7th and 8th Graders
Debate Energy
Vermont needs a new energy
source, and the 7th and 8th graders
have been studying different types of
energy to replace Vermont Yankee
Nuclear Power Plant. We each got
different types of energy to study, and
we all had different opinions about
them and debated them out.
We planned the roles for each of
us in our groups, such as camera person, moderator and timers. The first
debate practice for all teams was on
March 31, and the first debate was on
April 6 for the Skrabely, Clearwater
and Mackinnon groups. The very first
all-star debate was on April 7 in the
school auditorium.
This was a very exciting unit for all
of us. We go to interact with other kids
from other teams we don’t get to see
often, and learn about different energy
sources.

debate.

Bake Sale Raises Funds for

While St. Johnsbury residents voted at the school on Town Meeting
Day on March 1, the St. Johnsbury
School Girls on the Run and Heart
and Sole teams held a daylong bake
sale to raise money for the program.
Baked goods were donated by the
girls, their coaches and school personnel. It was a great opportunity for
