New Afterschool
Programs Offer a
Variety of Options
The St. Johnsbury School offers an
after-hours program, so that kids can
learn and progress and increase their
stamina. The new classes are part of
a 21st Century grant that the school
received.
The program provides 30 minutes
of homework time, so kids can get
their homework done early. All programs end at 4:30 p.m., and there is a
bus that brings children home safely.
This year’s programs include Run
and Fun and Red Clover Book Group
for 1st and 2nd graders. For 3rd, 4th
and 5th graders, we have Lego Club,
Knitting, Comic Book Club with Charlie
Hood, Nature Class and the popular
Swim and Gym. There is also Photography, Drawing, Chess Club, Dinosaur
Discovery and Paint Club.
Plans are in the works to create a
collaboration with the St. Johnsbury
Recreation Department for Friday activities, which will most likely be an
intramural program. Future plans include creating summer programming
and a possible Saturday program.
You can get more information
about afterschool programs at the
front office, or from Ms. Ridley or Ms.
Willey.

Fall Play: The Greek
Mythology Olympiaganza
The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza is a comedic play based on Greek
myths. The cast has 18 unique young
actors, and five different myths featuring Chronos, Pandora, Jason, Orpheus and Paris. In this series of myths,
you are guided by the two narrators,
Tony L. and Katie M.
lenges to retrieve the Golden Fleece,
and how Jason eventually becomes a
king. The fourth legend is about a
demigod named Orpheus, and his
relationship with a young mortal
named Eurydice.
The last one is about two men,
Paris and Menelaus, and their conflict
The first myth is about Chronos,
and speaks of how the Greek gods
were created. The second myth is
about a man trying to find a woman to
marry. He eventually stumbles across
Pandora, and falls hopelessly in love.
The third story is about how Jason
and the Argonauts face many chal-
over Helen, the face that launched a
thousand ships.
Ms. Bradford and the cast have
worked extremely hard on the play for
the last few months, and it has been a
blast! We hope you enjoyed it.

The Catamount Times is produced by
the St. Johnsbury School newspaper
club. We accept submissions from all
students at the school.
Our total sales from the Book
Fair were $6,178.92. We purchased
around $1100 worth of books for the
library, and gave out prizes to classrooms and individuals. We retained
some cash profit to use for author
events, and still have a credit at
Scholastic to pay for our Book Fix
program and purchase other books.
Kris Ingram’s class won the doorway contest and received $50 worth
of books for the classroom library.
Deb Smith’s class won the food
drive contest, bringing in 99 pounds
of food. She received $50 for her
classroom library. Kris Ingram’s
class brought in 96 pounds of food,
so we awarded them a $25 prize.
In the poster contest, the following students received $5 gift certificates to purchase a book:
4th grade: Amora P.
5th grade: Olivia E.
6th grade: Emily E.
7th grade: Isabel B.
8th grade: Makayla L.
The guessing game had five winners. They split the Smarties that
were in the jar, and each received
$5 to spend on books. The winners
were: Cedric M., Hailey K., Hailie
G., Emily E. and Chandler L.
The Book Fair is a significant
amount of work, but it benefits the
library and our students. It allows us
to get more books into the hands of
students.
The next Book Fair is May 17-23,
2016.
