In this new year, I’m pleased to announce new services that will allow our patients to do just that. We’ve added deeper cardiac expertise to better serve patients with advanced heart failure. We’re investigating a promising new drug to help women with breast cancer. And we’re helping thousands of citizens in Central Texas with advanced ear, nose, and throat care—in some cases giving patients a chance to rediscover their speech or hearing. As we celebrate the new Advanced Heart Failure Clinic and heart transplant program, we’ve asked world-renowned congenital heart surgeon Dr. Constantine Mavroudis to share his perspective on cardiac surgery. It gives us a chance to view the specialty through the lens of someone who helped pave the way for pediatric cardiovascular surgery to become what it is today. This is especially timely as we look forward to the arrival of the new Children’s Hospital at Scott & White this fall, and the promise that will be given to children and families nearby. Dr. James Rohack walks us through the new health reform law and outlines Scott & White’s efforts to help lead the industry’s response while ensuring that patients receive the best care possible. He shares a passion for patient care with Vision Campaign chairman Ross McKnight, whose good works are an extraordinary example of dedication to Scott & White. We are blessed with a commitment from leaders—at Scott & White and in the community—who believe strongly in the promise of advanced medical care at Scott & White. REBECCA WEEMS MCCOY GARY L.
