Scott & White staff reflections on the tragedy at Fort Hood

ALL FOR ONE

here ’ s no greater time to heed a call to healing
T than during a national tragedy . Scott & White staff responded remarkably on November 5 , 2009 , after 12 soldiers and one civilian were killed and dozens were wounded at Fort Hood .
Thousands of Scott & White staff members mobilized in an incredible display of teamwork , talent and compassion to help each soldier transferred here . As the largest United States military installation in the world , Fort Hood is home to many military men and women , and the hopes and dreams for peace and freedom that bind us all . Doing our part to treat patients that day was a noble duty , and we were honored to help .
When word came in that several members of the military would be transferred to Scott & White , our Command Center and departments moved to action . “ Staff are trained to respond to traumatic events , and on this day , all staff answered the call ,” says Alfred B . Knight , MD , president and CEO , Scott & White Healthcare . With precision , we quickly assembled multiple trauma and support teams for each patient . We also ensured the safety of all patients and visitors , as well as uninterrupted care for all our patients .
Here , in their own words , are some recollections and reflections from some Scott & White leaders whose teams were on the front lines on November 5 .
