Auxiliary pledges $ 1 million to benefit The Children ’ s Hospital and new Surgical Sciences Building

I n December 2008 , the Scott & White Healthcare Auxiliary pledged $ 1 million to benefit The Children ’ s Hospital at Scott & White and the construction of the Surgical Sciences Building at the Scott & White Hospital in Temple , TX . With this extremely generous pledge , the hospital will be able to purchase special “ smart pumps ” for medication infusion . This advanced technology will help infants ’ and young children ’ s circulatory systems . The pledge also will support the construction of 36 state-of-the-art operating rooms in the new Surgical Sciences Building , a Phase II Vision Campaign priority . The Auxiliary was founded in 1897 to offer philanthropic support to the healthcare system . More than 100 active members comprise the Auxiliary , a much-appreciated asset of the Scott & White Healthcare family . Each year , the Auxiliary raises hundreds of thousands of dollars to benefit patients at Scott & White . With their unfailing spirit and promise of $ 1 million , countless lives will be greatly improved .
“ This is an organization that serves and gives ,” says Nancy Birdwell , Scott & White Healthcare ’ s chief development officer . “ The $ 1 million pledge is bold and ambitious , but the history of giving that the Auxiliary has established over the years makes this a special and exciting announcement .”
The pledge primarily will be funded by the hospital ’ s Sunshine Gift Shop , which recently celebrated three decades of fundraising for priority programs at Scott & White . Its Auxiliary volunteers consistently devote their time and efforts to the shop ’ s success . Auxiliary members also work in areas throughout the hospital and at Scott & White Healthcare at Round Rock .
Auxiliary President Vanny Bolsins says , “ We feel a great sense of pride and ownership in the work that goes on at Scott & White . Scott & White has touched each of our lives , either directly or through our families or friends . To be able to give and help this great institution build for the future is a special privilege for the Auxiliary .” ■
