LEADERSHIP to help shape healthcare delivery that meets families’ needs Glenn Robinson President, Baylor Scott & White - Hillcrest A news anchorman’s chance encounter lands him in the world of healthcare In the 1980s, a Mobile, Alabama NBC affiliate news anchor was dining out at a local seafood restaurant, when he was approached by a man with a story idea. The man had a son who was born with a severe medical condition that required specialized care. The man, John Reussos, was the restaurant’s owner and he wasn’t looking to 24 THE CATALYST September 15 | sw.org gain publicity for his son, Paul, or gather funds to cover his care. He just wanted to promote the advanced capability of the University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile, a hospital that had successfully treated his child. And he wanted to tell people that they didn’t need to travel to a larger city to get the care they need in a critical situation. The trouble, he told the anchor, was no one really knew that. Their conversation that night resulted in a five-part miniseries about young Paul on the nightly news. “Shortly after the programs aired, I was asked to join the board of the hospital, and a few years after became the head of marketing and business development,” says Glenn Robinson, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Hillcrest President. “I wouldn’t be in healthcare if it weren’t for Paul. He changed my life forever.” Paul Reussos’ moving story carved a new career and passion for Mr. Robinson.
