LEADERSHIP
to help shape healthcare delivery that meets families’ needs
Pioneering Excellence
nnovation has always been part
of the two healthcare systems
now joined as Baylor Scott &
White Health. Advancing the practice
of healthcare requires pioneers—those
willing to explore new territory—as
well as a desire to dig deep into current
experiences to spark improvements. As
the new Vice President of Philanthropy
and Communications for the Scott &
White Healthcare Foundation, Michael
Moore, FAHP, is one of these pioneers.
Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio,
Michael earned a Master of Arts degree
in Philanthropy and Development at
Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.
Most recently, Michael served as the
Vice President for Advancement at
Ringling College of Art and Design in
Sarasota, Florida.
Although he began his career in
healthcare administration, Michael
believes philanthropy chose him. While
working at Sutter Health in northern
California, he was asked to establish
a foundation to support the threehospital system, a novel enterprise at
the time. “I realize now that I was one
of the first development professionals
to set up a philanthropy program in a
healthcare system,” Michael says, “but
I found that I really enjoyed it and met
a lot of interesting people.”
Throughout his career, he has
served as a consultant to various
philanthropic organizations, including
Baylor University Medical Center
in Dallas. The hospital served as
one of several pilot locations for a
unique benchmarking system Michael

Scott & White Healthcare Foundation welcomes Michael Moore, FAHP,
as the new Vice President of Philanthropy and Communications
developed in which fundraisers
could compare their success to other
similar organizations. This evaluation
supplemented annual reports and
helped organizations set goals and plan
more effective fundraising strategies. “I
see a need and seek to fill it,” he says of
his work. “I ask, ‘how can we do this
better or more efficiently?’”
A similar philosophy is what drew
him to Baylor Scott & White, he says.
As a board member of the Association
for Healthcare Philanthropy, he worked
with members of Scott & White’s
development team and became familiar
with the organization. “I operate with
a high level of integrity, and I look for
that in the organization I work for,
too,” Michael says, noting Baylor Scott
& White’s strong value system and
focus on patients.
With changes in our nation’s
healthcare system and the highest
number of uninsured people in our
history, fundraising has never been
more important to bring healthcare
innovations to patients, he says.
Philanthropy has always been
there; it has always made a difference,”
he says. “My question is ‘what can
we do for our patients through
philanthropy?’” Having heard of the
great relationships between donors
and the Scott & White Healthcare
Foundation, Michael is eager to get to
know the organization’s supporters and
together work to enhance healthcare in
their communities.
As one of the largest healthcare
systems in Texas, Baylor Scott &
White cares for people in a wide variety
of communities, an exciting prospect
for Michael, who loves to explore new
areas and meet new people. As an avid
cyclist, he looks forward to hitting the
roads and trails of Central Texas and
becoming more familiar with the area
(all while keeping in shape so he can
enjoy his wife’s homemade cookies.)
“This region is so full of energy and
innovation. Who wouldn’t want to be
part of that?” Michael says. n
