Cancer Services Expanding at Scott & White College Station

T-cell Lymphoma Clinical Study

“ I deeply believe this is one of the few institutions in the country , if not the world , that is centered on the patients and on the good of the community .”
— Arthur E . Frankel , MD
The Scott & White Cancer Research Institute is offering a new clinical study for patients who are resistant to the usual therapies for T-cell lymphoma . Unlike many cancers that have few , if any , outward signs , cutaneous T-cell lymphoma manifests in tumors on the skin and lymph nodes , sometimes causing disfigurement . Although rare , T-cell lymphoma can be devastating , both physically and emotionally . It is diagnosed in 3,000 to 6,000 people a year in the United States and can affect people of any age , race or gender . “ Research funding for uncommon diseases like T-cell lymphoma is often difficult ,” Dr . Frankel says .
The study is testing a drug known as A-dmDT390-bisFv ( UCHT1 ). Subjects in the study must be at least 18 years old and must have failed at least one other therapy regimen , such as ointments , oral medications or chemotherapy . All procedures related to the study are provided at no cost to subjects .
Early results are promising using the lowest dosage , says Dr . Frankel . The trial is open to 40 to 50 more subjects , and physicians are encouraged to refer individuals who may qualify to participate .
For more information about participating in other clinical trials , please contact the Scott & White Center for Cancer Prevention and Care at 800-882-4366 .
