As the area’s only Level I trauma center
between Dallas and Austin, Scott &

Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation (PMR)
Physiatrists—physicians who specialize
in nonsurgical solutions for muscle
and joint pain and injuries—have an
array of options to help patients who
are not candidates for surgery or who
want to delay surgery. PMR physicians
treat gait abnormalities and spasticity
as well. Inpatient rehabilitation is
located at Scott & White’s Center for
Rehabilitative Medicine in Waco. The
Bone and Joint Institute also helps post-
acute patients who have experienced
strokes, amputations, spinal cord
injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and
other traumas and disabling conditions.
Physical Therapy
Reducing pain, restoring function and
mobility, and preventing disability
are the goals of licensed professionals
who give patients the needed skills and
confidence to return to daily activities.
Occupational Therapy
Regaining life and work skills for
patients with cognitive and motor
disturbances, as well as offering adaptive
equipment, training, and education
for patients and family members, is
an important part of care delivery by
licensed occupational therapists.
