Thank You All! continued
Cardiovascular Research Institute (a
collaborative effort of Texas A&M,
Scott & White, and the Veterans
Administration) were also realized.
Your generosity has had immediate
and far-reaching impact. Without
your support, it would have been
more difficult to expand vitally
important services to communities
and to enhance medical research
efforts. An enormous investment
is needed to bring these initiatives
from the planning stage to fruition.
We expanded the Neonatal Intensive
Care Unit (NICU), ranked among the
nation’s top 3 percent for newborn
survival, and built the Scott & White
Hospital - Round Rock to better meet
the needs of patients in Williamson and
Travis counties. In the largest directed
fundraising effort, we opened the new
McLane Children’s Hospital Scott &
White, so more pediatric patients can
receive the specialty care they need
nearby, in a supportive family-centered
environment. We broke ground on the
new Scott & White Hospital - College
Station as well.
Many Scott & White physicians are
working to bring innovative new clinical
therapies, research discoveries, and
treatments to patients. They’re training
future leaders in dozens of medical
and surgical specialties at the Texas
A&M Medical Education Building and
the Temple College Simulation Center.
Some physician faculty members hold
endowed chair positions, which are
funded by philanthropy to accelerate
the academic side of patient care.
(See page 11 for a list of endowed chairs
funded before and during the Greater
Century and Vision campaigns.)
Patients have always been at the
center of everything we do. To make

possible, we grew the number of
Scott & White clinics from 16 to 65, and
created partnerships with community
organizations and hospitals to best serve
patients near their homes, allowing
them to avoid the burden of traveling
to the main Scott & White - Temple
flagship hospital or to major cities.
Our patient focus has clearly been
a high priority among our supporters
as well. This is illustrated through
many donations, including a $3.5
million anonymous gift, $2 million
of which has been directed to the
Cancer Research Institute, and the
Dr. M. Karen Newell Rogers Cancer
Cell Research Laboratory. This
important gift is closing a critical
10-year gap that will allow us to take
promising therapies to patients faster.
The remaining $1.5 million will be
used to fund an expanded pediatric
cancer treatment center at the McLane
