Ground Construction begins on the regional medical center campus in the Hill Country named for area visionaries fforts to increase access to high-quality medical care to residents of the Hill Country have begun. Plans that have been years in the making reached an important milestone in November 2011. Ground was broken on the first phase of the Wayne and Eileen Hurd Regional Medical Center Scott & White in Marble Falls, Texas. The 60,000-square-foot medical clinic will anchor the 111-acre medical campus near the intersection of US 281 and TX 71 South. The clinic is scheduled to be completed in 2013, and will include physician offices and medical and surgical clinics. During the planning process, which began in 2007, the medical center campus was informally called the Scott & White Lake of the Hills Regional Medical Center. Because of the Hurds’ dedication to the initiative, Scott & White Healthcare system leadership announced during the groundbreaking ceremony that the campus will be E 24 The Catalyst Winter/Spring 12 | sw.org named in their honor. Wayne Hurd, co-developer of Horseshoe Bay, passed away last fall, but he and Mrs. Hurd have been stalwart supporters of the project since its inception. “The Hurds have been generous of heart and spirit. We are so pleased to honor them by naming this facility after them,” says Nancy Birdwell, executive vice president and chief executive officer, in nearby communities and their patients, as Scott & White brings even more resources, physicians, and advanced technology to the region. The healthcare system earlier had acquired the 30-bed Llano Memorial Healthcare System and its six outpatient clinics, and in the process, welcomed their physicians and staff.
