New Leadership continued
White’s profile in the region. Dr. Knight’s
efforts have caught the attention of
leaders at esteemed national groups that
track organizations’ success. In turn,
they invited Dr. Knight to speak at a
nationwide forum in Washington, DC,
about Scott & White’s model of providing
low-cost, high-quality care.
Dr. Knight, 65, joined the medical staff
of Scott & White in 1986 in the
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Twenty-five years later, he has decided to
embrace a new challenge as president of the
Scott & White Healthcare Foundation, a
change that became effective in April.
“My tenure as president and CEO has
been the most rewarding in my career,”
says Dr. Knight. “I am proud of what the
Scott & White family has achieved by
working together. Dr. Pryor is exactly the
right leader to continue Scott & White’s
march toward its vision of being the most
Trusted and the most Valued name in
American Healthcare.
“I am ready for new challenges,” he
says. “The Scott & White Healthcare
Foundation has embarked on an ambitious
fundraising campaign that has already
given rise to many important initiatives,
such as creating a new Children’s Hospital
and building a regional medical center in
the Hill Country. As president of the
foundation, I will focus on building
awareness and support for the facilities and
programs that enhance our ability to
provide the high-quality patient care

Drayton McLane, Jr., chairman of the
Scott & White Healthcare Board of
Trustees, offered his praise of Dr. Knight’s
distinguished service as president and
CEO. “We are grateful to Dr. Knight for
his continued vision, wisdom, and steady
guidance as Scott & White begins a new
chapter in its history. He has achieved
excellent financial and operational results.
Recognizing that healthcare systems like
Scott & White are best positioned to make
the most efficient use of resources while
providing the highest-quality care, we must
now shift our focus to integrating the
facilities that make up our system today.”
When Dr. Knight was appointed
president and CEO of Scott & White
Healthcare in 2000, the healthcare system
comprised one hospital and 12 clinics in
the region. Dr. Knight led a decade-long
effort to expand access to high-quality
healthcare to more patients. Now Scott &
White has 12 hospitals and hospital
partners, more than 60 clinics, a health
plan, and multiple subsidiaries. In March,
construction of a new Scott & White
hospital began in College Station, Texas. A
land parcel has also been purchased in
Marble Falls to build a hospital serving
residents of Burnet County. ■
