Courage of Egrets
Lynn E. Frederiksen
The courage of egrets is
landing white
among the broad cattle
perching on brown backs
feasting on clouds of insects
stirred by
lumbering hooves.
The courage of egrets
needs no other
sustenance
eats no carrion
has wings
to take them where they need not
heed nor
note nor
regret
the murder of crows.
