Crosswords Vincent O. Cooper 1. I usually wake to write at dawn, a puddle of books at my feet. But today the ink is dry on the tip of my pen. 2. Last night I dreamt of colorful dragons. But the noise of my dripping roof drowns out my voice at dawn. 3. As the stereo stops playing Blue Skies, I can hear cars criss-crossing up and down the hill in front of my gate. 4. They drone along like a thousand broken records, making me think of bees that swarm in a garden. My brain abuzz with colors, I see red. 5. The dripping bugs me more than when the wind rains guineps from the tree that looms over my roof. But the water cannot drown out the music of a chicken’s chirp, of a hen that sings the blues, as they try to cross the street. 69 TCW
