When you walk into Smashburger, you immediately notice the smell of, well, burgers. For hardcore carnivores like me, this is a smell of hope. The interior is bright and comfy. If a fifties diner and a modern art deco home had a baby, this would be it. The location I visited is at 71st and Garnett, the smallest of the Tulsa stores.

Once I make my way to the register, a bright-eyed teenager offered to assist me. The menu was a bit of an overload to the senses. I decided upon the “Avocado Club” – a burger with avocado, lettuce, tomato (which I had removed because, ewe), mayo, and ranch, all on a wheat bun. I also got the “Smash Fries”, French fries tossed in rosemary, olive oil, and garlic.

"The first bite completely overwhelmed my tastebuds."

The first bite completely overwhelmed my taste buds. The flavors all mix together like a puzzle you didn’t know your mouth needed. The ranch and mayo are on opposite buns and the differing consistencies keep things interesting. The avocado tasted surprisingly fresh. Onto the fries- they had a real kick to them. I dipped them in ranch, so as to complement the burger.

I’d give this meal about an eight out of ten. The gourmet burger trope is beginning to get old for me, but I love burgers, so I get over it easily. This is definitely one of the better chains that are popping up nowadays. I’d definitely recommend anyone to check it out.
