MOTORING

How to prepare for a cold winter

Preparing your vehicle for the cold season in Canberra involves avoiding blurry windshields and deciphering tyre codes with these simple steps. The initial move would be to check and correct your tyre pressure.
It may come as a surprise to some of us, but the appropriate setting can usually be found on the driver’ s side door jamb. Check the tyre’ s thread condition to ensure grip.
Should replacements be bought, make sure check the manufacturing date on the wheels’ sidewall in the form of three or four numbers preceded by three letters.
The first number would indicate the week and the ones after that is the year of manufacture. This image shows the 24th week of 2016. Avoid anything over six years old.

Worn-out wipers not good for road visibility

Another factor that inhibits our visibility during the fog season are bad wipers. They should not make any screeching noise, leave marks or lift from your windshield during high speed drives.
During replacement, degrease the windshield prior to installation. The change in between seasons is a good time to maintain your vehicle.
These are only minor steps to make your driving more enjoyable and safe. For more serious matters, please visit your favoured mechanic.

Teagle sister act to take on the RP scene

CALMEL AND DAGEN LINED UP FOR RADIO AND TV
TEAGLE sisters Calmell and Dagen( pictured) head for Manila next month to break into highly competitive Philippine showbiz scene.
Eighteen-year old Calmell was part of the formidable trio AIJIA that electrified Australian audiences after they got to the X Factor top 12 finals last November.
Her younger sister Dagen, 12, is a triple-treat that can sing, dance and act.
Proud parents Reg and Jophine of Wetherill Park NSW are excited at the prospect of taking their daughters to the Philippines.
“ It will be their first time to perform together in the Philippines. We understand the demands of the industry, but we want our girls to have fun,” said mum Jophine.
The Teagle sisters’ managing agent MAS Presents’ Marco Selorio will be lining up a series of appearances for the budding social media stars including radio, television and online guest performances.
“ I believe the Teagle sisters bring a unique sound, great chemistry and fun personality together. Calmell has already received national exposure in Australia, but Dagen is a rising star,” Selorio said.
The Teagle sisters will join fellow X Factor star Naisa Lasalosi and YouTube sensation Jayden Rodrigues for the upcoming MAS Tour in May. •
