On top of the world no more after poor start in’ 17

PINOZ Jason Day relinquished golf’ s world No 1 ranking- just short of one year at the top- to America’ s Dustin Johnson at the 2017 Genesis Open in California last month.
Day’ s grip on the top spot had been slipping away going in to the Genesis Open because he has battled injuries which forced the Queenslanderto end his 2016 early.
In his four tournaments this year, Day finished 12th, 5th- and 65th in California, after four rounds shooting in the 70s.
He also missed the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open in January.
Day became only the second Australian to take to the world No 1 ranking since Greg Norman on the back of a stunning 2015 in which he won four times, including his first major, the US PGA championship.•

Five events at running festival

A FULL weekend of running events, including the Canberra Marathon, take place on Saturday and Sunday, April 8-9, 2017 when the Australian Running Festival and the Canberra Times Fun Run return to Canberra.
The events are expected to attract more than a thousand runners from around the country as serious competitors, joggers, wheelchair athletes, pram pushers and walkers take part in one of the festival’ s five events.
The Canberra Times Canberra Marathon is the weekend’ s flagship event, and it takes place on Sunday, April 9.
Australia’ s oldest marathon will celebrate its 42nd year.
For serious runners, the 50km ultramarathon features a longer option and doubles as the 50k National Championships for the third year.
For those who prefer a shorter distance the 5km and 10km races will both take place on Saturday 8th April.
All five courses will be a onelap route, exploring the beautiful Canberra lakeside, starting and finishing at the main festival area near Old Parliament House. •
