FILIPINO participation in the 2017 National Multicultural Festival in Canberra proved a strong attraction. Philippines’ participation, as part of the ASEAN section of the Festival at The Civic, comprised one display stall of Philippine Embassy and the Philippine Department of Tourism, and one Filipino food stall of the Filipino Language School. A feature of the Filipino participation was a public selfie photograph competition,‘ It’ s More Fun In The Philippines’, with the winner receiving a trip to a resort in exotic Palawan flying Cebu Pacific. Local savoured Filipino dishes delights including adobo, dinuguan, lechon kawali, caldereta, guyabano, buko, and halo-halo. Philippine Ambassador Minda Calaguian-Cruz said it was a wonderful event, a yearly activity when people from different cultures had the opportunity to showcase their respective cultures.“ The Philippines has a booth was showcasing particularly some sites of the country in tandem also with the ASEAN, the countries among the region composed of ten counties,” the ambassador said.“ The Philippines now chairs the ASEAN for 2017, so we will chair all the meetings of the ASEAN.“ This is a very good opportunity to showcase ASEAN.” •
