JOURNALISTS ’ offensive against ‘ fake news ’ and ‘ alternative facts ’ is the focus for the 2017 Press Freedom Australia dinner in Sydney on April 28 , 2017 .
Sky News political editor David Speers will be guest speaker and will detail the impact on journalism of the new media environment created by the rise of Donald Trump .
“ In an era of ‘ fake news ’, ‘ alternative facts ’ and mistrust of the media , who would want to be a political reporter ?” Speers said .
The Press Freedom dinner raises funds for the Media Safety and Solidarity Fund , which assists journalists and their families , and campaigns for press freedom in the Asia-Pacific region . •
