FORMER world superfeatherweight boxing champion Jack Asis coming out of retirement this year, barely six months after hanging up his gloves in August 2016.
Asis started training again in December 2016.
There’ s talk about re-instating Asis as world champion following reports about potential performanceenhancing drug charges against Malcolm Klassen, the South African who defeated Asis in his final bout in August and taking the Assassin’ s IBO World title.
Asis’ trainer-manager Brendon Smith said that, ccording to multiple reports in December, just one day before the South African’ s scheduled bout with Yuri Gamboa, police allegedly raided Klassen’ s hotel room and found the fighter, his trainer, and a nurse with illegal performance-enhancing drugs in their possession.
“ Klassen and his trainer were arrested and taken into custody to face charges.
“ We’ re not going to comment on the situation with Klassen because we don’ t know the full details,” Asis Smith said.
“ However in light of the reports I’ ve contacted IBO president

Klassen’ s win over Jack.
“ All I ask is:‘ Was Jack beaten far and square?
“ There was very little in that fight.
“ If Malcolm is found to have cheated, Jack deserves to be reinstated as the world champion.
“ Fair’ s fair, Jack did everything by the rule book. Did Malcolm?

“ That’ s the question we deserve answers for.”
Asis had very little to say regarding the situation with Klassen.
When asked to respond, the fighter admitted it did leave a sour taste in his mouth.
“ If it’ s true about Malcolm, that’ s not fair to me,” Asis said. •
