in the City
GRAFFITI IN ABSTRACT
University studies were not enough
to satisfy a Filipino student’s hunger
for expression. He chose graffiti,
the street art he learned from
boyhood in his native Davao, in the
Philippines. Today he joins local
artists around Canberra spraying
colourful murals across the city.

Manila now a ‘travel-risk hub’
QANTAS PUTS BAN ON DUTY-FREE LIQUID PURCHASES
QANTAS Airlines has classified
Manila, the Philippines, as a risk
air-travel hub, the same as with in-
bound flights from Jakarta and Bali,
Indonesia.
A News Ltd report said Manila was
“on the highest security level of cau-
tion for the airline”.
This followed a brief by Australia’s
Department of Foreign Affairs and
Trade (DFAT) which read: “Terror-
ist attacks, including bombings, are
possible anytime, anywhere in the
Philippines, including in Manila.
“We continue to receive information
that indicates that terrorists may be
planning attacks in the Philippines,
with the southern Philippines particu-
larly Mindanao most at risk.”
Signs have been placed at Manila
International Airport advising that
Qantas and connecting flights to the
US on United Airlines had banned
duty free liquid purchases.
Qantas has denied, however, that it
was banning alcohol, perfumes and
other liquids bought at airport duty-
free shops in Manila following the
News Corp report.
The airline also confirmed it was
doing its own bag searches and beef-
ing up security. over concerns about
Islamic State militants.
Qantas said there was no change to
the standard in-bound restrictions en-
forced by the Australian government
that ban liquids, gels and aerosols
over 100 millilitres. n
