THE Philippine Embassy honoured 20 individuals and organisations at a special function last month in recognition of their extraordinary contribution towards enhancing bilateral relations between the Philippines and Australia. Ambassador Minda Calaguian-Cruz presented certificates of recognition at a ceremony in the ambassador’s residence in Yarralumla on Sunday, May 21, 2017. The event marked the 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. It also coincided with the celebration of the 2017 Philippines-Australia Friendship Day and the Philippines’ National Heritage month. Special guests were first assistant Allastater Cox and MLA Elizabeth Kikkert of the ACT Legislative Assembly. Entertainment was provided by visiting Filipino tenor and papercut artist Miguel Castro and Canberra’s novelist-poet Merlinda Bobis. n.
