COSTAATT Student Strives… DIGITAL ARTIST THINKS BIG By Jody-Ann Thompson A Judah Chrichlow t 20-years-old, College of Science Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT) student, Judah Chrichlow, has taken up the creative mantle by going above and beyond the limits of the classroom. Judah, a young graphic designer, has become her own boss at Lion of Judah Designs and has started a new, exciting venture through a digital journey headlined Trinidad Illustrated. With Lion of Judah Designs being a little over a year old, Judah is the engine room of the enterprise. She wears the cap of graphic designer, photographer, and videographer, while being a student. She admits that it is a challenge that she faces head on and has conquered. The designer says it can be an uphill battle balancing school, freelancing and still making time for Trinidad Illustrated. Judah, who received homeschooling prior to entering St. Francois Girls School then enrolling to COSTAATT, is on schedule to complete her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Graphic Design by May 2018. Through Trinidad Illustrated she creates timeless digital illustrations of popular/ significant locations across Trinidad, with the aim of eventually stretching to Tobago and beyond. She says “I’ve never seen it done locally before so I’m hoping that this can be the start of a new wave of artwork for local creatives.” She adds, “I feel like every piece that I do, I get a bit better at it because I try to incorporate more detail to create more realism.” Judah attributes her inspiration to her design lecturers at COSTAATT, and traveling. “I was Homeschooled” I developed a passion for art from a young age while watching my mother do arts and craft especially when she involved me. I was homeschooled until the end of Standard 5. After being homeschooled, I sat S.E.A and passed for St. Francois Girls’ College where I excelled in all of my classes with Visual Arts being one of my favourite subjects. My art teacher noted this enthusiasm and pushed me to go above and beyond for every project.
