CREATIVE THINKING Photography exhibition set to celebrate the cultural diversity of women living in Wiltshire Swindon based photographer Sabine Coe started a project in February 2012 soon after completing a photography course. The project set out to celebrate the diversity of Swindon and Wiltshire, by taking portraits of women living here, but originating from different parts of the world. Sabine originates from, Brittany France and moved to Swindon for a change of scenery and to escape the ‘rat race’ of Paris. She has been living in the UK since 2000 and ended up marrying a born and bred Swindonian. Photography really started for Sabine as a mum, enjoying taking visual memories of her children growing up. “As I progressed, I realised this was something I wanted to do as a profession because it inspires me every day” says Sabine. Sabine has made 50 portraits representing 41 nations of women living in Swindon and Wiltshire. Many of the women come from European countries but many come from as far away as Zimbabwe, Venezuela, Quebec, Pakistan and the Philippines. The portraits show the women either wearing a traditional outfit, or displaying an object from their native country. Sabine also asked each woman to write a short testimony in English and in their native tongue saying what they particularly love about living in Wiltshire. Sabine is currently looking for sponsors to make the exhibition happen.
