IN PROFILE
Lyn’s background
What are IPL’s growth plans?
Lyn joined IPL from Capita’s offices in Chippenham (previously
SunGard) in 2013. During her 3 years at SunGard she built a
strong relationship with IPL and saw it as the perfect next step
for her career.
Lyn’s career background is fascinating and inspiring.
She has a degree in physics and chemistry, research
experience in particle physics and quantum metrology and
is a qualified solicitor.
Lyn has worked for some of the largest blue-chip
companies including software company AIG, law firms Baker
& McKenzie and Withers, BT and Vodafone Global Enterprise.
Our plan is to grow revenue over the next five years and
increase staff numbers from the current 300. We are looking
to do this organically and by building on our strengths in
mobile applications and single view systems.
Currently we’re on a recruitment drive for a range of roles
including developers, business analysts, consultants and
graduates. We have just launched a unique apprenticeship
scheme called Bright and our new Business Analysis
Academy launches this summer.
Another avenue we’re looking to grow is our consultancy,
delivery and services work, which we’ve been offering for
35 years.
What is your role at IPL?
I joined IPL as Commercial and Business Assurance Director. I
now also head up HR, Facilities and the Admin team, so my
new title is Business Services Director.
What do you like most about your job?
LYN PENFOLD
Business Services Director at IPL
www.ipl.com
TBE interviewed Lyn Penfold, an eclectic,
vibrant, intelligent and cultured person
with a clear passion for business and
delivering above and beyond a client’s
expectations.
Lyn has worked for IPL based in Bath
for the last year and has ambitious plans
for the company’s growth in the coming
years. IPL works across the UK on various
projects with many staff members living
and working in and around Wiltshire.
Lyn is proud to call Malmesbury
her home and was elected as a Town
Councillor in 2013 to help manage
change and move the oldest town
in England into the 21st century in a
sympathetic manner whilst not forgetting
its roots.
I love the diversity and challenge of the role. It allows me to
use my analytical and commercial skills in equal measure and
there is room for creativity. I’m also proud to work with a
team that are committed to creating excellence.
We have recently worked on some high profile projects
such as the award-winning online bank, mobile banking apps
and mortgage intermediary apps for Nationwide. And we also
won an award for the results day service we built for UCAS- a
project we couldn’t get wrong!
It’s great to work for a company with such drive for success.
What makes IPL unique?
We have a long, stable history of delivering secure, highend, safety critical systems - and we’re not just a run-of-themill software developer. We have some impressive clients
too, such as, Nationwide, UCAS, Environment Agency the
Highways Agency, Rail Settlement Plan and EE.
We offer a blend of skills that means we’re comfortable in
both business and technical environments, and we focus on
quality, complexity and security. Clients can trust us with our
ISO certifications ISO 9001, ISO 27001 and ISO 14001.
I also like the fact that IPL is large enough to trust, but not
faceless as customers get to know our staff.
IPL’s core values are at the heart of everything we
do: integrity, honesty, trust, partnership, passion and
commitment. A lot of companies would say these values
are at the core of their business, but at IPL it’s vital that we
consistently show that we adhere to them, as we work on
such high security projects working with organisations such
as the MOD. Our clients often highlight these characteristics
as to why they work with us too, so our dedication to this
must show.
I also love the fact IPL champions women in the IT
industry. We have several women in the company in top
level positions which is unusual. Our CFO and our Sales
and Marketing Director are women, and there are several
women in the extended management team.
