STEM PIONEER EMMA CARTER APPOINTED CEO OF WESTSPRING IT
Emma Carter has been appointed as the new CEO of South West managed IT service provider WestSpring – one of only a handful of senior women in STEM in the region.
Emma( 45) took over the team at WestSpring from 1st May and is already embracing her new role.“ This role takes me back to my IT and comms roots though more than anything I love the company that the founders Phil Cater and Jason Small have created- a people-led business providing IT consultancy and support services to businesses across the UK.
“ We want our growth to replicate our past successes- delivered alongside our clients’ growth, through consistent high-quality service, whilst developing our teams to create a positive, loyal and nurturing environment.
“ Our vision absolutely continues to add value to the community we operate in, supporting our charity of the year alongside individual social enterprises and community interest companies. Over time we will look to continue this ethos elsewhere.”
The company, based in Bristol, has a team of 31 and turned over more than £ 5 million over the last 15 months compared with just under £ 3million the previous year( 12 months).
Emma said,“ We are seeing consistent and steady growth month on month across all our services and are proud we are doing this without compromising the service to our clients. We are using the growth to fund investment in our processes, our structure, and our teams, which in turn is elevating our capability us for the next three years. The great news is that we in the position to be able to recruit experienced talent to help us on the journey.”
Co-founders Jason Small & Phil Cater are thrilled to be joined by Emma.“ We know Emma is the right fit for us both in terms of her professional experience and her commitment to ensure we remain a people-centred business. We’ re also proud our new CEO is female as our other senior members of staff. Our sector is still heavily male-dominated and we want to encourage both men and women to embrace STEM sectors to ensure we stay competitive globally in the future,” Jason said.
Emma’ s appointment is one of several decisions the founders have taken to grow this successful business. Last year entrepreneur James Phipps joined as Executive Chairman and Victoria Parker was appointed as Chief Operations Officer.
James said,“ Emma and I worked together in my previous role as Executive Chairman of Excalibur Communications, and I’ m thrilled she accepted this role. I trust her to develop WestSpring through positive leadership every day.”
James was previously Executive Chairman of Excalibur Communications, leaving the board of the Swindon-based company in 2020 after completing a management buy-out, which also included Emma as Sales & Marketing Director
Founders Jason Small and Phil Cater set up WestSpring IT in 2016 and the HQ is in Aztec West in Bristol, though they have plans to expand into other areas over the next year. WestSpring provides strategic managed IT solutions, with service excellence a priority, establishing long lasting partnerships with businesses in the UK. Typically, their clients have 50 + employees, operate across multiple sites( including Europe and the US). These include Halo Leisure, Circadian Trust, Method Consulting and Precision Resource Group.
